Description
Collection relating to the Second World War service of 15020 Corporal (Cpl) John Hugh Hobbs who served with 20th Battalion, 2nd New Zealand Expeditionary Force, who became a prisoner of war (POW) in camp PG57 Grupignano, Italy, and later in Stalag VIIIA Gorlitz, Germany. Collection includes Cpl Hobbs' original diary compiled from letters written at the time and sent home to his wife in New Zealand; 2 diaries in exercise books, written in Stalag Camp; several small pages of original diary notes; menu created by Cpl Hobbs in camp; map showing march as a POW; POW currency (German and Italian); compiled list of march including details of dates, places, kilometres travelled; a flyer from the British Free Corps given to Cpl Hobbs in camp.
