Description
Collection relating to the Boer War service of 90 Private Alfred George Vivian Stevens, NSW Imperial Bushmen. Collection consists of a one page letter, dated 2 March 1901, written by Private Alfred George Vivian Stevens to his mother. In the letter he refers to keeping accounts for the unit and his likely return to Australia; his intended return to South Africa and work with the constabulary; decline of the unit from 700 men to 250 due to illness and death; projected time it will take the area to recover after the end of hostilities; the condition of the Boers and the finding of buried guns. He concludes with news of the death of Queen Victoria and regards for family members.
