Disc : Trooper C A Fechner, 6th Australian Commonwealth Horse
Metal disc with a small hole in the top. Stamped on one side is 'ALF FECKNER [sic] LOVES DOT MURRAY' and on the other is, '82'.
82 Trooper Charles Albert Fechner served with No. 3 Troop (Warragul), A Squadron, 6th Australian Commonwealth Horse. He enlisted on 16 April 1902 and was a 20 year old farmer.
The contingent left Australia on 19 May 1902 on board the transport Manchester Merchant, although a detachment had left on board the fright ship Menelaus on 16 June. They arrived at Durban on 13 June. They arrived at Newcastle, Natal on 18 June and were ordered to turn around and return to Australia due to the end of the war. They left Durban in July on board the transport Drayton Grange and arrived at Melbourne on 7 August 1902.
Although Fechner "loved" Dot Murray in 1902, either the romance faded or something happened to Dot as he was still single when he enlisted in the AIF in August 1914. Fechner married Annie Kelberg in 1920.
