Description
Studio Portrait of Lieutenant (Lt) James Frisby Wilkinson. Lt Wilkinson was serving with the Victorian Volunteer Rifles (Pentridge Company) when he was recruited by the New Zealand Government as a military settler on 18 January 1864 and served as a Private with the Melbourne contingent of the Taranaki Military Settlers. After returning to Australia, he was promoted to Sergeant in the Victorian Volunteer Rifles in 1872 and, later, to the rank of Lieutenant.
