Description
Studio portrait of 2710 Private (Pte) Robert Edward Bruton. A labourer from Cumnock, NSW, Bruton embarked with the 13th Battalion from Sydney aboard HMAT A54 Runic on 9 August 1915. Though he stated on his enlistment form that he was "18 years, 1 month" old, he was only 16 years old. He transferred to the 10th Field Artillery Brigade in March 1916 and on 1 June 1916 received the equivalent rank of Driver. He returned safely to Australia on 21 May 1919. He later re-enlisted as N99714 Sergeant Robert Edward Bruton for service in the Second World War, though he did not see active service overseas due to his age.
