An informal portrait of three soldiers prior to their departure for overseas service. Identified, left to right, are brothers 136 Sergeant (Sgt) George Philip Slatter, 11th Company Australian Machine Gun Corps and 137 Private (Pte) Alexander Slatter, of the same company and of Maroon, Queensland. 397 Pte Algernon Cook, 41st Battalion is seated holding an unidentified child. Sgt George Slatter died of wounds in France on 29 January 1918, aged 24 years, while his brother Pte Alexander Slatter returned to Australia on 30 January 1918. Pte Cook, a carpenter from Ormiston, Brisbane, was killed in action on 11 June 1917, aged 34 years.
