Description
A grave marker of an unknown soldier on the beach west of Alexandria. After the Greece and Crete battles many bodies were washed up on shores far away from the actual battle sites.
Annotation on reverse reads; ‘April 1942. On beach west of Alexandria. After the Greece & Crete battles quite a few bodies were washed up on these shores and these graves with crosses market “Unknown” were dug. There are quite a few close to this one’.
