The ruins of buildings destroyed during the Japanese occupation of Ambon, 1942-1945. Ambon was captured by the Japanese forces in February 1942 and the Australian barracks at Tan Tui became a prisoner of war (POW) camp for the remainder of the Australian forces on the island. Ambon was subjected to frequent Allied air attacks from May 1942, which destroyed local Ambonese buildings, as well as Japanese military sites.
