Description
Outdoor group portrait of allied Prisoners of War (POW) interned at Stalag VIII B, later renumbered to Stalag 344. Identified by their slouch hats are Australian soldiers, possibly Jack Laird (left, back row) and W D Scott (centre, back row). Photographs such as this, were sent back to families of POWs. Stalag VIII B was one of the largest German run POW camps in the Second World War. It was located in Lamsdorf, Silesia (now Lambowice in Poland) and approximately 100 000 allied servicemen and women passed through this camp during the war. It was a camp comprised largely of other ranks.
