Street portrait of Cadet Midshipman Ivan Raoul Jones, RAN, with his cousins Marea and David Ross. Jones joined the RAN at the age of 13 and trained at HMAS Cerberus enlisting on 1 January 1938. He trained in England with the Royal Navy during the Second World War, serving on HMS Terrible, Drake and Howe and HMAS Sydney and then on HMAS Quiberon. He was involved in the building and training of crew for HMAS Hobart in the United States, and then served in Vietnam on Hobart's first tour of duty. In 1979, Cmdre Jones was appointed an Officer of the Order of Australia (AO) Military Division for service as Director-General of Fleet Maintenance. He retired as a Commodore and was discharged on 6 April 1979.
