Description
Studio portrait of 1997 Private (Pte) William Glen Crisp, 32nd Battalion. A blacksmith from Aldinga, SA, Pte Crisp had served with the 75th Battalion senior cadets for four years and with the 22nd Light Horse Regiment (LHR) before he enlisted in September 1915, three months before he turned eighteen. He sailed from Adelaide with the 3rd Reinforcements of the 32nd Battalion on HMT Miltiades, disembarking at Suez. After a period of training the battalion sailed for France. Pte Crisp was killed in action within a month, on 19 July 1916 at Fromelles, the battalion's first major battle, in which it suffered close to 90 per cent casualties of its fighting strength.
