Description

Collection relating to the First World War service of 6100 L/Cpl George Andrew McKenzie, 17 Battalion. Collection consists of an original handwritten letter, dated 3 September 1918, addressed to his mother. The letter is written from Bath War Hospital where McKenzie was recovering from a gun shot wound to the head following action at Villers-Bretonneux in August. In the letter McKenzie recounts his experience of crawling injured behind enemy lines, being helped by an enemy soldier and finally being rescued by Allied troops. Also included is a typescript of the letter and a photograph (reproduction) of McKenzie.
