Description
Collection relating to the Second World War service of VX30682 Corporal (Cpl) Lewis Stanley Cole. Collection consists of an 11 page typed memoir written by Cole in his later life. It describes his experiences in the Second World War, including as a Prisoner of War (POW) after the Fall of Singapore in 1942, primarily while he was working on the Burma-Thai railway. He describes in detail the conditions under which the POWs were forced to work, as well as his own tasks during his interment. The memoir is illustrated with maps and photographs of Cole and his comrades during the war. A hard copy version is available for Reading Room access.
