Studio portrait of Lieutenant (Lt) William King McLean, 1st Pioneer Battalion. Lt Mclean, a civil engineer from Chatswood NSW, enlisted on 1 November 1915 and embarked from Melbourne aboard HMAT Borda on 17 October 1917. He returned to Australia on 1 February 1917. Lt Mclean conducted a long correspondence with his brother, 14238 Private Hector Morgan Mclean, 9th Field Ambulance, throughout the war and these letters are held in the Australian War Memorial's Research Centre as PR89/012-1 and PR87/082.
