History / Summary

During 1917 Lieutenant Evelyn Lascelles was flying in No. 66 Squadron, RFC, in France when he was hit by German anti-aircraft fire. Struggling to maintain consciousness, he managed to crash-land behind British lines. Mechanics who recovered his plane presented him with the remains of the propeller. Lascelles had served on Gallipoli before obtaining a commission in the British army and transferring to the RFC.
