Daunton, Francis Joseph (Private, b.1893 - d.1916)
Description
Collection relating to the First World War service of 842 Private Francis Joseph Daunton (also known as De Daunton), 25 Australian Infantry Battalion, AIF. Collection consists of an original one-page handwritten letter sent from Margaret D'Daunton to her son, Private Daunton, dated 7th June 1915. In the letter, Margaret D'Daunton describes her pride at hearing Private Daunton has 'joined up' and says she will be praying for him during his service. Private Daunton worked as a labourer before enlisting, and was killed in action (KIA) in France on 29th July 1916, aged 23 years old.
