Badge : Sister A L Jones, Princess Christian Army Nursing Service Reserve
Circular silver badge for the Princess Christian Army Nursing Service Reserve. The badge features a large cross in the centre, with a coronet at the end of each arm. In the quarters formed by the cross are a tudor rose, thistle, shamrock and oak leaves and acorn. The writing around the edge of the badge reads "PRINCESS CHRISTIAN'S ARMY NURSING SERVICE RESERVE".
Worn by Sister Amy Louise Jones while serving with the Princess Christian Army Nursing Service Reserve in South Africa. Sister Jones worked as one of two nurses on the Princess Christian Hospital Train. This train was purchased by public subscription and named after Princess Christian of Schleswig-Holstein, who had donated 650 pounds towards its purchase. Capable of accomadating 100 wounded soldiers, it had a surgery and was capable of operating without resupply for weeks at a time. By October 1901 the train had transported over 7500 British and Boer casualties.
