Studio portrait of 2016 Corporal (Cpl) James David Pope, 1st Machine Gun Company. A stone mason prior to enlisting on 26 January 1915, Cpl Pope was initially promoted to the rank of Sergeant during training, but reverted to Private when he joined his unit on 21 July 1915. Cpl Pope was killed in action in France on 20 July 1916.
