Description

Japanese Theodolite in wooden box. The instrument consists of a telescope, elevation arc and mount. The telescope pivots on the mount and the angle of the telescope can be read off the elevation scale. There are two spirit levels located on the mount. Located inside the box are a screwdriver and spare eyepiece. Markings: There are a number of black Jaqanese characters on the lid of the box which are unreadable. Translation of Japanese characters on an aluminium plate arrached to the lid of the box "HATTORI (=seiko)/ WATCH SHOP SECTION OF SURVEYING MACHINARY/ TOKYO AND OSAKA". Black Japanese characters impressed into inside lid "39", "MANUFACTURED IN 1941", and "SUBMITTED BY HATTORI". Impressed into base of mount "K. HATTORI CO. LTD./ TOKYO No. 150/ PAT 12689".
