Description

Viet Cong grey cotton long sleeved shirt with grey plastic buttons marked 'TV.8'. Seams top stitched in white cotton with two button flap pleated breast pockets, the left hand side flap having a stitched gap to take a pen. Shoulder straps feature the outline of an inverted chevron in white stitching (decorative rather than symbols of rank).

History / Summary

Grey shirt as worn by Viet Cong Main Force soldiers. This shirt was recovered by a forward observation party of 105 Field Battery, RAA, who were operating with 'D' Company 1 RAR, in War Zone 'D', Vietnam, in 1965. The party consisted of Lieutenant B Stark, Bombardier C Elwell, Gunner T Sommerton, Gunner J Cathcart, and Gunner P Flemming. 105 Field Battery was attached to 3 Battalion, 319 United States Artillery Regiment.
