Description
Japanese soldier's autographed national flag with 'scribbled' or hastily written autographs in purple characters, apparently done by members of a special suicide attack group. The name of the intended recipient of the flag does not appear on it. Also marked English, in ink, 'PERSONAL FLAG CARRIED BY JAPANESE SOLDIER TAKEN AT BALIKPAPAN BORNEO BY H HALL 2/31 BATTALION 25 BRIGADE 7TH DIVISION 1945'.
History / Summary
Japanese soldier's personal flag taken at Balikpapen, Borneo by NX175484 Private Herbert Dodds Hall, of 2/31 Battalion, in 1945. Hall was born in Sydney in May 1925 and enlisted on 7 October 1943. He was discharged on 21 January 1947.
