Autographed good luck flag carried by Japanese soldier Yagi Katsuichi in Burma
Description
Japanese soldier's autographed national flag with numerous signatures. Apart from the traditional wish of long-lasting good fortune in war, the name of the soldier recipient, Yagi Katsuichi, appears beside that of the Mitsui Shipbuilding Corporation. Most of the signatures are probably those of company employees who worked with Yagi. Two ends of the flag are reinforced with leatherette and have tape ties. A short white silk streamer, written with black ink characters, is attached to one of the ties.
History / Summary
Carried by a Japanese soldier for good luck. This flag was found by the donor in Burma.
