History / Summary
This green and white flag marked the regimental headquarters of the 2nd Light Horse at Quinn's Post on the rim of a declivity falling into Monash Valley at Gallipoli. Flags and other heraldic devices have used for hundreds of years by military forces to indicate particular people or units on the battlefield. This weather beaten flag was used during the Gallipoli campaign and was brought to Australia after the evacuation in December 1915.
