Championship flag : 1st (Anzac) Battalion, Imperial Camel Corps
Description
Silk flag divided into four triangles of red, black, blue and green. The points of the triangles meet in the middle and are covered by a white diamond embroidered in black with the letters 'I.C.C.'. Two white silk ribbons are attached to the top and bottom of the hoist.
History / Summary
This championship flag was won by 1st (Anzac) Battalion of the Imperial Camel Corps, for the highest aggregate number of points, at a sports meeting held at Rafa, Palestine on 18 and 19 February 1918. It was presented to the commander of the battalion, Lieutenant Colonel George Furner Langley. His own camel, Horace, had earlier won a race during the carnival. In addition to races, the sports days included camel-back wrestling and tug-of-war competitions. The colours of the flag represent the four battalions of the Camel Corps.
