Description
Silver medal with maroon ribbon with a central royal blue stripe. Obverse: Head of Edward VII and 'EDWARDVS VII REX IMPERATOR'. Reverse: 'NEW SOUTH WALES FOR MERITORIOUS SERVICE'. Impressed in small letters around edge 'SPECIMEN'.
History / Summary
Part of a Royal Mint specimen set of the 21 medals authorised on 31 May 1885 for issue by the Australian Colonial Forces. This allowed each colony (and later state) to issue a Distinguished Conduct Medal, a Meritorious Service Medal and a Long Service and Good Conduct Medal. The DCM was never awarded but the other two types continued to be issued until 1910.
