Army Camp, Caulfield
Description
Mainwaring is likely to have painted this scene when he was an Australian army artist on probation. An Army camp established at Caulfield Racecourse, grandstands and track in view. In the background is the transit camp; the marquee in the middle distance is the courthouse; and the hospital block is in the foreground. The grandstands were used for the Medical Board, Men's Mess and Camp Commandant's office.
