Interior of chapel
Description
Looking across the transept during a church parade. The chancel is on the left. The alter is decorated with the cross of St George, only portions of which can be seen. Note the ubiquitous oil drums, two variaties of collapsible forms used by the army, and the Padre's black tie only worn for services. This building was designed by Captain John Leslie Stephen Mansfield (NX112107), a well known Sydney architect. The check-patterned screen is made of 'pungle', the split stems of sago palm leaves. The roof (of which the inside can be seen) is made up of sago palm thatch roofing material called 'sac sac'.
