Japanese shelter - Pearl Ridge
Description
One of a group of Japanese shelters below Pearl Ridge on the far side of the hill, pictured on the third day after troops of A and D Companies, 25th Infantry Battalion captured the ridge. The roof and walls were banana leaves on a bamboo framework and the floor was split bamboo. It was built on a steep hillside, so that there was space underneath the room shown for another 'floor', and below that was a fireplace. Items of clothing and medical goods belonging to the Japanese were still scattered around.
