Flight Lieutenant Latham Carr Withall
Description
This portrait of Flight Lieutenant Latham Carr Whithall was made prior to the Second World War at Duxford, Cambridgeshire.
At this time, Flight Lieutenant Whithall was a member of the No 19 Squadron (later also No 152 Squadron, Fighter Command) flying Gloster Gauntlets and Spitfires. Later in 1936, Flight Lieutenant (later Squadron Leader) Lathan Carr Withall, Australian born joined the RAF in 1936. In 1939, an experienced pilot he was posted as a flight commander to another squadron and was subsequently killed in action in 1940 during the Battle of Britain.
