The Indispensible Mr Malichar
Description
Portrait of Mr. Malichar, working in a laboratory at the Commonwealth Solar Observatory, Mount Stromlo. The artist, R. Emerson Curtis noted of this work: "Born in Vienna, Mr. Malichar came to Australia in 1910. A man of artistic talent and many trades, he has been successively a sailor, ship's carpenter, house builder, orchestra conductor, choral director and violinist. He now operates a high-precision machine, among other duties, in the workshops at Mount Stromlo".
