Officer's mess, home of the flying-boat squadrons, Cairns
Description
From this typical North Queensland house, young fliers of the Royal Australian Air Force went out nightly on bombing missions over New Guinea, to return when the sun was up, to a meal and a long sleep on the spacious old verandah. To these lads the old home on the waterfront looked very sweet - the nearest thing to home.
