Ambush
Description
Sketch of two Australian soldiers who have just been wounded in an ambush. Dargie noted: "The enemy can set an ambush, too. Unfortunately, this is only discovered, as a rule, when someone walks into it. If the party is lucky, they will get out with wounds only. The enemy set a very strong defence and ambush position just beyond Daumoina. This ambush dominated a flat stretch of road, about a quarter of a mile long, with a high bare bank on one side, and a steep drop to the river on the other. Along the whole of this piece of road there was no cover of any sort. As a result of the casualties that they suffered here, the spot was known to the troops as "Abattoir Corner"."
