2/1 Australian Infantry Battalion positions
Description
On a spur overlooking the airstrip at Rethymnon (or Retimo) showing the mountains to the south east. Very bitter fighting between an Australian infantry battalion and the German parachutists took place here in May 1941 when the Germans were repulse with heavy casualties.
