Shipping at the wharf in Suda Bay
Description
As seen from Suda village. The 2/2nd and 2/3rd Australian Field Regiments held positions on the outskirts of Suda during the German parachutists attack. Suda figures prominently in the defence of Crete; many troops were landed here from Greece and the Germans made determined attacks by parachutists on it. The British Navy suffered heavily in Suda Bay while defending the island and one cruiser, two destroyers and a dozen or so smaller craft were disabled and left there.
