Colour note for landscape or Tank Plateau, Balikpapan
Description
Situated on a table top feature to the west of Parramatta feature is Tank Plateau, with its huge squat oil tanks. Not one of these tanks had escaped our bombardment and during the second day's fighting many were still smoldering from the pre-assault bombardment, while at odd moments a tremendous roar and sheet of flame told of another direct hit. They presented a weird spectacle - collapsing in their craters some lay flattened as though completely exhausted. This sketch was drawn some time after the battle had passed through the area.
