Wing Commander (Dizzy) Crawford
Description
This sketch of Wing Commander Crawford, a Canadian and Commanding Officer of 194 Transport Squadron, Royal Air Force, was made shortly before he was killed when his aircraft crashed into a hill on Ramree Island in a blinding storm in June 1945. Two Australian air crew were also killed in the incident, along with one British member of the RAF. Crawford is seen in his tub of well water outside his tent, bathing as he shaves, his shaving mirror balanced on his bent knee.
