Make and mend (Telegraphist Leonard Keith Farey)
Description
The needle and thread has been associated from time immemorial with the British sailor. It is one of the traditions of the Royal Navy. The drawing shows S7144 Telegraphist Leonard Keith Farey, Royal Australian Naval Reserve, sitting on a kapok fender on the deck of HMAS 'M.L426' taking advantage of the 'make and mend' period, or, as it is called in the Army, 'stand down'. In the background can be seen one of the depth charges strapped to the deck, New Guinea Waters.
