British Centre (British WRENS, VAD Joan Farquharson and VAD Katherine Elwood)
Description
The British Centre provided entertainment and meals for the large forces of British personnel who were in Australia. The two British WRENS seated at the table had only been in Australia for two days. From left to right;- seated, Voluntary Aid Detachment (VAD) Joan Farquharson (Glamis, Scotland), VAD Katherine Elwood, (Manchester) was an artist by occupation and illustrator of children's books. In the background are two hostess, standing left-right; Miss P Cox (Turramurra) and Miss C McRae (Darling Point) both hostesses at the British Centre, Royal Navy Nursing Service, Sydney.
