The Aiming Point
Description
The bright yellow light of the aiming point can be seen within a group of buildings; a river in the foreground; trees at centre right. Short 25-pound guns are firing onto Arty Ridge in Bougainville in the early evening. The difficulty of this target, a razor back with the battery in a deep valley, necessitated the use of incremental charges, also the clearing of the trees from the ridge (not shown). The aiming point was alight all night on the small hill opposite the guns for the direction of the layers.
