To Oro Bay
Description
After the fall of Buna, Oro Bay became the principal advanced base for further operations. Many of the merchant ships which made the passage from Milne Bay were Dutch. Single ships were usually escorted by one of the corvettes and these little convoys were often attacked by Japanese dive-bombers from Gasmata. The corvettes were not built as anti-aircraft ships, a role which they sometimes had to take.
