De-Briefing
Description
The procedures known as 'briefing' and 'de-briefing' were part of an airman's lot. Briefing occured shortly before an air operation - whether small or massive - when the participating crews were assembled to hear details of the target, the routes to be followed, meteorological conditions and other operational information necessary for them to reach the target and carry out the mission. After their return the crew had to make their reports and be interrogated by the intelligence and technical officers to obtain data needed to assess results of the operations, aircraft performance and other technical aspects of the effort. Only when this detailed 'de-briefing' was complete were the weary crew dismissed for rest.
