Description

Depicts a feature of the Gallipoli landscape called the Sphinx. War correspondent Charles Bean notes in his journal how the ANZAC's named this feature of the Gallipoli landscape on 25 April 1915, the day of the landing. The Sphinx, also known by Turkish soldiers as “Yuksek Tepe (High Hill)”, is a geographical outcrop and a significant feature of the Sari Bair range that runs from the beach south of Anzac Cove to Koja Temen Tepe.
