Description

A rough oil sketch. Dargie noted, "Two soldiers of 2/12th Bn [Australian Infantry Battalion], who have just come in from Ward's and the CO [Commanding Officer] of 2/10th Bn, pause and look down on the distant Bismarck Range, very blue above the cloud-filled valley 5000 feet below. It was from here that we saw snow one day on the peaks of the Bismarcks, the first snow they had seen since Syria. On the edge of the slope is a doover made of two half-tents, which has been erected by two of the men of the 2/10th Bn as their shelter".
