Description
Depicting the finding of the crew of a Boston (A20) bomber of the Royal Australian Air Force forced down into the sea when returning from Rabaul after the bombing strike. The crew, after taking to rubber boats, landed on a small island in the Trobriands Group. Posted missing for six days, they were later spotted by the crew of a Beaufort aircraft of 100 Squadron, Royal Australian Air Force, the wing of which appears in the lower right hand corner of the picture. Eventually they were picked up by a Catalina flying boat and returned to Milne Bay.
