Description
Locals wearing their best apparel and carrying as many household goods as they could manage, streaming in from the East Coast villages in an effort to make their way to Singapore. Many of the kampongs (clusters of huts) suffered demolition by our troops, partly a scorched earth policy and partly for a field of fire, Malaya.
