Cable-laying in a jungle clearing
Description
Before the introduction of reliable portable radios, army signallers maintained communications by telephone. As shown in this painting, the AIF had to lay the cables connecting positions.
Murray Griffin was captured during the fall of Singapore, where he was interned at Changi prison. He arrived at Changi in February 1942 without artistic materials.
