Description

Troops formed up in Illebbe Creek in deep banks, come up climbing steeply and assaulted Japanese positions dug around a small vegetable garden. The enemy was routed, suffering 51 killed; the remainder fled. Our troops (two platoons of "B" Company, supported by one platoon of "A" Company) were led by Sergeant G.R Crawford and Private A. J Rolfe who single-handed rushed several enemy posts. Sergeant Crawford flung hand grenades in the lead. Rolfe was firing a Bren gun from the hip. Both men were wounded and both awarded D.C.M's.
