The Stone Bridge over Jordan at Semakh
Description
During his time in the Middle East, Ivers painted many places that were significant to military campaigns during the First World War. This work depicts an old stone bridge over the Jordan River near Semakh, Palestine. Being able to cross the Jordan River aided the Australian troops in the taking of Damascus. The bridge spans the centre of the composition with much of the landscape surrounding the bridge included.
