Coastal Patrol between Lae & Finschafen
Description
Showing Lae burning in the distance. Seen from P.T Boat 143, on the night of the landing by 9th Australian Division at Lae, whilst operating in the Huon Gulf area. The skipper of the P.T Boat is Lieutenant Junior Grade, J.S Baylis, Jr., of the U.S Navy. PT "143" sank a freighter troopship in Bismark Sea in March 1943 and has also sunk 6 Japanese barges and killed about 200 Japanese troops with machine gun fire and depth charges, New Guinea.
