Description
Preliminary drawing for larger painting. In the early part of the siege of Tobruk, the Inshore Squadron, including in which were the Australian "V" and "W" destroyers, did valiant work and many claim to have originated the "Spud Run". In this picture is one of the destroyers at anchor in the harbour, is transferring new troops to "Eskimo Nell", while from "XII" on starboard side, wounded are being moved to the destroyer for passage to Alexandria. At the time, stores and ammunition are being discharged into lighters. In the back of the town, beyond Admiralty House, A.A. guns and searchlights are in action, Tobruk, Libya.
